Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that constructing high rises residential buildings is the most effective solution to handle the houses crises in major metropolitan area. I completely agree with this statement because vertical expansion saves valuable urban land and provides affordable houses surrounding to the working place.

Furthermore, the largest buildings and apartments devlope in urban city. This is the good decision to save the urban land. And it is very useful and effective for citizens and the high opportunities have to live for working person where he survived. Apartments is very important for us because population rise up day by day and many individuals are stay and survive in same place. Such as, On the other countries like Tokyo, Dubai etc have not a large amount of area where they build the houses.

On the other hand, Other advantage is that apartments are cheaper and spacious for us. And furthermore the high advantages nearby the city and the crowd easily go to the hospitals and for their offices. And do not have to travel long distance go for the job and other uses. Which they save their times and money. Moreover it is easier for the government to provide water and electricity to individuals. The government save the time and money.

In my case, apartments is the best solution to control the pollution and population, I believe building and big apartments blocks is the best solution for housing shortages in big cities. It uses the land properly and makes life easier for the people living in modren urban areas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you completely agree that tall apartment buildings can address housing shortages. You give relevant reasons, including making better use of urban land, locating residents near work and services, and simplifying the provision of utilities. However, these points are only partly developed. For example, the references to Tokyo and Dubai do not explain how their limited land demonstrates the effectiveness of high-rise housing, and the claim that apartments are “cheaper and spacious” is not supported with a specific example or explanation. The conclusion repeats your view but adds little. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason more fully and show how it supports your position, while keeping the discussion focused on whether tall blocks are the best solution.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a concluding statement, and the reader can generally identify your main reasons. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from land use to population growth and then to examples of cities without clearly connecting these points. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “And,” and “Moreover” are repeated or used mechanically, while “On the other hand” suggests a contrast that is not actually developed. Some sentences are fragments, including “Which they save their times and money,” making the relationship between ideas less clear. Organise each paragraph around one central reason, then explain and illustrate it, and use linking words only when they accurately show the relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “urban land,” “population,” “apartments,” and “housing shortages,” so the subject is clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “houses crises,” “high rises residential buildings,” “the high opportunities,” and “control the pollution and population.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “devlope” and “modren” also reduce accuracy. Aim to learn common collocations for urban housing and use them consistently; for instance, describe a “housing shortage” and say that high-rise development “makes efficient use of land.” This will make your ideas more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but the range of structures is limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes making relationships between ideas unclear. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “Apartments is very important” and “many individuals are stay.” Articles and number are also problematic, as in “the houses crises” and “in major metropolitan area.” Some clauses are incomplete or incorrectly attached: “Which they save their times and money” cannot stand as a complete sentence, and “And it is very useful…” begins a sentence with an unclear reference. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, checking agreement and singular/plural forms, and joining related ideas with accurate conjunctions. More reliable control of these basics will make your argument easier to read.
