Student answer (Band 6.0)

The increasing population in major cities has increased a serious demand for affordable housing. Some people think building tall aparment blocks is the best solution to this problem and somehow i agree with that because high rise building can accomadate a large number of people in one building while making efficent use of limited land.

One of the main advantages of building tall apartment block is that they can accomdate thousands of people within relatively small areas. Therefore constructing high rise building allow governments and private developers to make better use of available space. Furthmore apartments are generally more affordable than individual houses because construction and land costs are shared by many residents. For examples in cities such as Karachi, apartment buildings can provide apportunities for families who cannot afford to purchase independent houses.

Another important benefit is that high rise developments can support better urban planning. When people live in well developed residential buildings many facilities like schools, supermarket, hospitals and public transport can be provided nearby. This can reduce the cost of travel expense, petrol ussage and pollution. As a result residents may enjoy a convenient lifestyles.

However i do not believe building tall apartment blocks should be the only approach. Some people prefer independent houses because they offer greater privacy, outdoor space, and quiter environment. Moreover poorly planned high rise buildings can lead to overcrowding pressure on water and electricity supplies and lack of green spaces, Therefore government should ensure that new residental buildings should have proper and great infrastructure and public facilities

In conclusion. i stronly believe that constructing tall buildings is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities, a proper urban planning is the must need to create comfortable and sustainable communities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes, while acknowledging that they should not be the only approach. You address the main parts of the question and give relevant reasons, including efficient land use, shared costs, access to facilities, and possible pressure on infrastructure. The Karachi example helps make the affordability point concrete. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the link between nearby facilities and reduced pollution could be developed with a clearer explanation, and the concerns about privacy and infrastructure receive limited support. Explain how these points affect residents and why your preferred approach remains strongest to make the argument more fully developed. (The response meets the stated length requirement; 10 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting apartment blocks, a paragraph recognising drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from housing capacity to urban planning is logical, and signposts such as “One of the main advantages,” “Another important benefit,” and “However” help readers follow the argument. This is a strong foundation, with some features of more flexible organisation already present. At times, though, connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “Moreover poorly planned…” combines several drawbacks without showing how they relate, and the final paragraph’s shift from acknowledging limitations to calling tall buildings the best solution could be linked more explicitly. Use clearer sentence boundaries and refer back to the central argument when moving between points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of housing and city-planning vocabulary, including “affordable housing,” “available space,” “urban planning,” “overcrowding,” and “green spaces.” These choices communicate the topic clearly, and terms such as “independent houses” and “public facilities” show some attempt at precision. However, spelling errors and awkward word combinations are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural: examples include “aparment,” “accomadate,” “efficent,” “petrol ussage,” and “a convenient lifestyles.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “great infrastructure” and “the must need.” Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases. More accurate, natural wording would make your ideas clearer and demonstrate stronger control of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because high rise building can accommodate…” and a conditional-style point about what residents may enjoy. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “building tall apartment block is” has a number-agreement problem, while “constructing high rise building allow” does not match its subject and verb. The sentence “government should ensure that new residential buildings should have” also repeats the modal structure unnecessarily. Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly in “In conclusion. i strongly believe…” and where the drawbacks are listed. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, articles and plurals, and revise long sentences so each clause is clearly connected.
