Student answer (Band 6.0)
Whether building tall apartment blocks in big cities is the best solution for accomodation or there are other ways, is an important issue to discuss. In my view, highrise apartments are the most feasible way to accomodate the urban population though it has some shortcomings of its own which requires enough attention as the accomodation problem.
As human population growing exponentially in some cities, accomodation is becoming an issue which needs immediate attention. Highrise apartment blocks built with proper planning solves this issue to some extent as it requires minimum area to hold maximum number of homes. It requires very less amount of area, which is the most crucial factor in this case. It also makes the system of the city such as drainage, water supply, highways much more controlled and easy. For example, if each citizen had their home built on their own piece of land, it would be messy to built the city around or within a private land.
Decentralization is an option for declustering the population from the city which in result could solve the accomodation problem but this is not always possible because some metropoliton cities bound to have more population than the other due to the weather or other geographical advantages.
Though highrise buildings gives the best solution to provide enough homes to the city people, some people might not love the idea of living 100 feets above the ground. It also makes the buildings prone to natural disasters like earthquakes.
To conclude, highrise apartments are the best way to accomodate most people in a city if it is planned accordingly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you consider high-rise apartments the most feasible way to house urban populations, while acknowledging drawbacks. You address the main issue with relevant reasons, including efficient land use and the difficulty of planning a city around separate private plots. You also mention decentralisation and residents’ discomfort or exposure to earthquakes, so the response considers alternatives and limitations. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that apartment blocks make drainage, water supply and highways easier to manage needs a clearer explanation or example, and the earthquake point could be balanced with how planning or construction standards reduce risk. Developing these ideas more fully would make the argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your view, body paragraphs present supporting reasons and limitations, and the conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing generally helps the reader follow the argument, and transitions such as “For example,” “Though,” and “To conclude” signal relationships between ideas. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical. The decentralisation paragraph, for example, introduces an alternative but its link to the claim that tall blocks are best could be made more explicit. The phrase “which in result” also makes the relationship between decentralisation and its outcome harder to follow. Use clearer referencing and explain how each paragraph supports your overall position to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “urban population,” “proper planning,” “decentralization,” and “natural disasters,” and your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “minimum area to hold maximum number of homes.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “accomodation” is repeatedly misspelled, “declustering the population” is not a natural expression here, and “city people” is imprecise. “Highrise” and “apartment blocks” are also repeated frequently. Aim for more natural collocations and vary references to residents and housing. These improvements would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent without changing the substance of your ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example (“if each citizen had their home built…”) and a concession beginning “Though highrise buildings…”. Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “As human population growing” needs a finite verb, and “Highrise apartment blocks … solves” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “some metropoliton cities bound to have,” the verb phrase is incomplete, while “which requires” does not agree with the plural “shortcomings.” There are also issues with articles, plurals and sentence punctuation in the opening. Review agreement and complete verb phrases, then proofread sentence boundaries; greater accuracy across your varied structures would strengthen the writing.
