Student answer (Band 6.5)
The prompt suggest that the most effective way to provide homes in large cities is to to build tall apartment. I mostly agree with this statement for the following reasons. Although I do believe that there are some potential risks of unplanned high-rise buildings in the cities.
First of all, cities population are increasing day by day as most of the people are now being city-centered due to their jobs and education. So , in this growing population there is need for proper urban planning. As our land areas are scarced building tall apartments can be considered as a effective solution. By constructing tall building a larger number of people can stay in a limited area. In this way there will be less pressure in the other natural land area that is often ocuppied by city dweller for housing purpose.Building upwards maximizes the land footprint in this way more homes, offices and business can be fitted in a smaller plot.
Secondly, tall storey building residents can have many advantages as higher floors receive direct sunlight , less dust and cleaner air copared to the ground level environments. Often tall apartments has community clubs and sports club that helps the resident to stay connected with their neighbours which develop their social life. another reason is, constructing high-rise building in one foot print makes public transit, sewage , securities and utilities easiar to manage which eases our lifestyle.
Nevertheless, if tall storey apartments were build without proper architecture and urban planning it can cause disruption during natural distaster like earthquake and flood. If urban planner construct this tall building considering this facts than I think it will be the best solution to provide more homes in large cities where residents accomodation is a major problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you “mostly agree,” and the conclusion returns to the view that high-rise housing can be the best solution when planned properly. You address the central issue with relevant reasons, including using limited land efficiently, accommodating more residents, and making utilities and public transport easier to manage. The qualification about earthquake and flood risks also shows awareness of a limitation. These ideas are extended with explanations, such as building upwards to reduce pressure on other land. However, some benefits—particularly sunlight, cleaner air, and community facilities—are asserted broadly rather than supported with a specific example or explanation of how they apply in large cities. More precise support and development of these points would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a qualification, and a conclusion. The progression from land efficiency to residents’ benefits and then to risks is easy to follow, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “Nevertheless” help readers track the argument. This coherent arrangement meets the lower-band expectations, while the range of linking expressions and paragraphing shows some movement towards more flexible organisation. At times, however, connections feel mechanical, and ideas within the second body paragraph are grouped together without much development. The transition from residents’ personal benefits to infrastructure management could be made more explicit. Use referencing and linking that show how each point supports your position, rather than relying mainly on sequence markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “urban planning,” “limited area,” “natural land,” “public transit,” and “utilities.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and phrases such as “maximizes the land footprint” show an attempt to use more specific language. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “scarced,” “ocuppied,” “copared,” and “easiar” should be corrected, while “city-centered” and “one foot print” are not natural in these contexts. Some collocations are also awkward, such as “city population” and “stay connected with their neighbours which develop their social life.” Build accuracy alongside range by checking spelling and learning common combinations such as “urban population,” “high-rise development,” and “social connections.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional clause (“if tall storey apartments were build without proper architecture…”) and a reason clause beginning “as most of the people…”. The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences less smooth. For example, “cities population are increasing” has a number-agreement problem, “there is need” is missing an article, and “tall apartments has” does not agree in number. Verb forms also need attention: “were build” should be “were built,” and “which develop” needs a form that agrees with its subject. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and passive forms, then proofread sentence boundaries and punctuation to improve control while retaining complex structures.
