Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, availability to build new residential buildings has become a pressing concern, some argue that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks while other disagree to this view. I personally believe that it is a valid option to build tall apartments in order to provide a living space.
One of the primary reasons why I support this idea is due to lack of availability of free space nowadays as the larger cities barely have any area left for other purposes. For instance, in bigger cities like Mumbai, it has become a concrete jungle there is no breathing space available, the apartments are very congested and built in a tight space. Due to lack of space the builders tend to build tall skyscrapers in order to provide a better living space, this is very beneficial for citizens who do not want to spend a substantial amount of money into buying expensive plots.
Another compelling reason for my stance is that, in growing cities it is nearly impossible to find a good living space which fits all the benchmarks one needs to make compromises in some way or the other manner for example, if a student or temporary employee needs to lease a house, apartments are the best option since renting a house is not a budget friendly option, the rent is also significantly lower in apartments as in compared to houses. Additionally, living in apartments ensures that there are multiple facilities available such as gardens and play area, which can be utilised by kids and senior citizens to keep them socially and physically active and mitigate the effects of loneliness.
In conclusion, from my perspective I believe that apartments are a far better option in larger cities and on balance the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You present a clear position in favour of tall apartment buildings and support it with relevant points about limited land, housing costs and shared facilities. The Mumbai example helps illustrate pressure on urban space, while the discussion of students and temporary employees adds a practical perspective. However, some ideas are more fully addressed than others: the claim that apartments provide “a better living space” is not explained, and the comparison with houses focuses mainly on rent rather than showing how tall blocks are the best way to supply enough homes. The conclusion restates your view but does not weigh the argument in much detail. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation or specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs give supporting reasons, and a conclusion summarises your view. Ideas generally progress from land scarcity to affordability and facilities, and linking phrases such as “For instance,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger progression. However, several sentences contain multiple ideas joined by commas, making relationships between points less clear; for example, the Mumbai sentence moves from congestion to construction patterns without a clear break. Some transitions, including “Another compelling reason,” are somewhat formulaic. Use clearer sentence boundaries and make links between claims and examples more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “pressing concern,” “concrete jungle,” “substantial amount,” “congested,” and “mitigate the effects of loneliness.” These choices help communicate ideas about urban housing and community facilities, and meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at less common expressions, though some are inaccurate or unnatural: “availability to build new residential buildings” does not express the intended idea clearly, and “fits all the benchmarks” is vague in this context. Phrases such as “budget friendly option” and “in as compared to” are also awkward. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating “apartments” and “living space” when a more specific term, such as housing or accommodation, would fit.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, using clauses with “while,” “since,” and “in order to,” as well as conditional phrasing such as “if a student or temporary employee needs to lease a house.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, the opening joins two independent clauses with a comma, and the Mumbai example similarly runs several clauses together. There are also issues with articles and agreement in “the larger cities” and “there are multiple facilities available,” where the construction could be more controlled. Break long sentences into shorter units, check subject–verb agreement and article use, and proofread punctuation to make your complex structures clearer.
