Student answer (Band 6.5)
In modern societies, long apartment blocks are made in big cities to fulfil the housing requirement. I strongly disagree with this view, as it is not a environmental friendly approach as well as vulnerable to disasters.
Currently, the residential areas are not sufficient enough due to growing population in large cities, consequently, housing authorities are considering to make tall building. Firstly, I believe, it is not an efficient way to address this problem, as it may cause several other issues like poor cross-ventilation. The tower-like apartments in big cities prevent air exchange and the environment become suffocated for the people. Furthermore, is causes hurdle for birds in finding their food and to flight with freedom.
Secondly, tall apartment blacks are more prone to natural disasters like the Earth quake. It is widely accepted that during this situation, the long buildings are more affected compared to smaller ones. Additionally, incase of fire emergency, it will be very difficult to evacuate people from upper most floors. Finally, these long buildings are risk for aircrafts collisions. For instance, an incident happened a few years ago in model colony area of Karachi, where a plane collide with a building during landing and crashed.
In conclusion, although constructing tall buildings provide a solution for growing population in large cities, the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. In my opinion, the horizontal spread of housing schemes, with limited growth in vertical direction, would be safer and sustainable strategy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the arguments regarding environmental impact and safety are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped. For instance, the point about bird flight is not fully explained, and the example of the plane crash in Karachi is a bit tangential to the core issue of housing density. To improve, you should expand on your main points with more detailed reasoning and ensure you meet the word count requirement to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure of your argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the transition between the discussion of natural disasters and the mention of aircraft collisions is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'housing requirement', 'cross-ventilation', and 'natural disasters'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'environment become suffocated' (should be 'becomes suffocating') and 'long apartment blocks' (should be 'tall' or 'high-rise'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and ensure you are using words in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'is not a environmental friendly approach' (should be 'an environmentally'), 'is causes hurdle' (should be 'it causes a hurdle'), and 'tall apartment blacks' (should be 'blocks'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical errors and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, while ensuring they remain accurate.
