Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 190 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address the topic of tall apartment blocks, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack specific examples or detailed reasoning. The position is somewhat clear, but the lack of depth prevents a full exploration of the prompt. To improve, you must expand your body paragraphs by providing concrete examples, such as mentioning specific cities or explaining the socio-economic impacts of high-density housing in greater detail. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points raised.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and limited use of cohesive devices. While you use transition words like 'In addition' and 'Furthermore', they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to your overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'uses lowest place' instead of 'uses the least amount of space' and 'growth urbanization' instead of 'urban growth'. You rely on simple terms like 'good way' and 'essential issue'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to urban planning, such as 'high-density housing', 'urban sprawl', or 'infrastructure development'. Expanding your range will help you express your ideas with more sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'population of world increasing' instead of 'the world's population is increasing', and missing articles throughout the text. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often contain errors in punctuation or word order. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb. Additionally, practice using articles (a, an, the) and prepositions correctly, as these are consistent areas of weakness.
