Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, population has become significantly increased. Similarly, in bigger cities they have much space to build new buildings for those who're homeless. Government should build more larger departments. From my perspective, it is a positive impact on our society because many people are suffering from this issue. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I shall explain the advantages and how people can survive in these cities.

The primary reason is that building a new small home such as an apartment can be beneficial for those who're overseas, and some students were also hospitalized. Similarly, government should need to focus on such circumstances and provide such facilities to those people who're living alone. For instance, bigger buildings will help us in certain ways. Many people don't have enough money to make their own house.

On the other hand, it is a positive impact in our city because many people were encouraged to help each other in difficult situations. Furthermore, providing such apartments can be an advantage, and people can decorate and organise them in their own way. Moreover, constructing a four-floor building is also very effective for business purposes. For instance, many spaces can be organised into different rooms such as meeting rooms and employment rooms.

Although, constructing new buildings can be helpful for those who're coming from another city, and they can live there easily. However, building a small town can be beneficial for many purposes such as business, school buildings, and universities.

To sum up, fabricating such buildings can provide lots of opportunities to survive there. People don't need to shift their position to another place because every kind of facility can encourage us to live here.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt but lacks depth and focus. While you state your position that building tall apartments is positive, the supporting arguments are often unclear or irrelevant. For example, mentioning that students were 'hospitalized' or discussing 'employment rooms' does not directly explain why tall apartment blocks are the best solution for housing shortages in large cities. The ideas are under-developed, and the connection between the proposed solution and the problem of housing is tenuous. To improve, ensure every sentence directly supports your main argument and provides logical reasoning rather than listing unrelated benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'On the other hand', they are often used to link ideas that do not logically follow one another. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition from housing to students being hospitalized is abrupt. The conclusion is repetitive and does not effectively summarize the main points of the argument. Improving the logical flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrases like 'positive impact' and 'good for'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'fabricating such buildings' (which usually refers to manufacturing small objects) and 'shift their position' (which is not a natural way to describe moving house). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and avoid repeating the same words throughout the text. Focus on learning collocations that are appropriate for formal essay writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, 'population has become significantly increased' is grammatically incorrect; 'the population has increased significantly' would be better. There are also errors with articles ('in our city' vs 'in the city') and subject-verb agreement ('government should need to focus'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense and article usage.
