Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 150 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth to fully address the prompt. The example provided regarding 'Mr. Shah' is too specific and anecdotal to support a general argument about urban planning. To improve, you must expand your points with logical reasoning and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. While you use some basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'On other side', the flow between sentences is often interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. The final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall structure and coherence of the response. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by supporting arguments that logically connect to the main thesis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'restless ness' instead of 'restlessness' and 'bought apartment' instead of 'buying apartments'. The phrasing is frequently unnatural, which hinders the clarity of your message. To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and work on improving your collocation skills to ensure words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('It provide', 'some of having problems'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain structural errors that make them difficult to follow. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which limits your ability to express sophisticated ideas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
