Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped; for instance, the link between tall buildings and tourism is not clearly explained. The response would benefit from more specific examples and a more thorough exploration of the counter-arguments to fully develop the position. Because the length requirement was not met, the score is penalized accordingly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the transition 'Despite this' in the third paragraph, which does not logically connect to the preceding point about deforestation. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that supports your main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'long infrastructure' instead of 'high-rise buildings' and 'cost implements' instead of 'rising costs'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'adviserable', 'reowned', and 'priortize'. While you attempt to use some academic vocabulary, the lack of precision and the recurring errors suggest a limited range. Focusing on learning common collocations and proofreading for spelling will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'mankind... are often look'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'for manage the expenses'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is high. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that complex structures are used accurately.
