Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the modern world, rapid growing population cause housing shortage in big cities such as Tokyo , Singapore , Dhaka and so on. So residence should decide , which house housing they prefer. In this case i prefer skyscraper although it come with some terms and conditions.

Now-a-days , people moving to big cities for better life and better opportunities . Because of that population in cities are growing un-controllably. Making small or private houses can create a great trouble such as shortage of places. Private houses can also cause trouble in our agriculture. Small houses take much places , because of that we are in shortage of agricultural land. Beside that , private apartments destroy our wildlife. Authorities need to cut forests to give land to the residence to make house and to live. For that reason , some wild animals extinct from this world. Apart from all the problem , private houses gives us privacy . It is less crowdie and less noisy.

On the other hand , big apartment take less place, which give more excise to the land to authorities to grow more crops or to do other thing to make our life better. It also help us to save our wildlife. But big skyscraper have some problem too. Big apartment lack privacy concern.it can be very crowdie and much noisy. It can also cause trouble during natural disaster such as earthqurke.

Overall, both house has their own problem and advantages. But in this new era, to give all the people a roof , tall apartment blocks is the best solution and i completely agree with this statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, focusing on land conservation and population density. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding wildlife and agriculture is a bit repetitive and lacks specific evidence or depth. While the position is consistent throughout, the supporting points could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. The conclusion reinforces the stance well, but the overall development remains at a basic level of argumentation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Because of that', 'For that reason', 'Beside that'). Some transitions feel forced, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun usage in the second paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'rapid growing population' instead of 'rapidly growing population' and 'give more excise to the land' which is unclear. The student relies on basic vocabulary and repeats words like 'trouble' and 'houses' frequently. To improve, the student should focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to urban planning and environmental impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'population in cities are growing'), article usage (e.g., 'in this new era, to give all the people a roof'), and punctuation errors (e.g., spaces before commas). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic grammar rules and sentence construction is necessary.
