Student answer (Band 5.5)

Population in all over the world has been increased from the past few years , and houses are the basic need of humans and to fulfill this , apartments are build to maximize the number of families to live.

I always agree to built an apartments in the city so that the most of the families can live and that is the most convenient method. However, in one place where the house is build can live only one family but in case of apartments they are tall in heights and so much floors and in the floors their are number of rooms like studio apartment, one bed apartments, two bed apartments and so on. If we take an example China is one of the most populated countries in the world and most of the apartment are build to adjust their people.

Last December I visited China Shanghai and I was their for a business meeting and it was my first international trip, and I was amazed to see that their were number of floor and apartments are build huge, not only a single tall building their were numerous tall apartments blocks.

In conclusion when houses are made they own a large number of space, but mostly of the people owns a private land for their houses, they want privacy and they need more space for their families and they don't want any restrictions in their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The conclusion introduces a counter-argument regarding privacy and land ownership that is not fully integrated into the main argument, leading to a lack of balance. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the depth of the discussion. To improve, you should expand on the benefits of high-density housing, such as infrastructure efficiency or environmental impact, and ensure the conclusion reinforces your initial stance rather than introducing new, conflicting points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the introduction, the example of China, and the conclusion is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and sometimes inaccurate way, such as the repetitive use of 'and' to connect clauses. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of your argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'nevertheless') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates directly back to the prompt.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'houses', 'build', and 'big'. There are several issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'population in all over the world has been increased' (should be 'The global population has increased') and 'adjust their people' (should be 'accommodate their population'). The range is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To reach a higher band, you should work on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and housing, and practice using synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'apartments are build'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to parse. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tenses are used consistently. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms will significantly improve your clarity.
