Student answer (Band 7.0)

In a contemporary world, the concept of an atomic family is getting popular with a growing population. Which require more accommodation areas or homes in metro cities. Few individuals believe that to overcome housing crisis it is good to build tall apartment blocks. In my view this is a very practical argument to solve the problem. I completely agree with this argument and reasons for this is discussed in following paragraphs with most suitable examples.

With the modern architecture and engineering we are able to build taller buildings in societies. High rise building can easily accommodate large number of families in it. An average residential building contains hundreds of decently spacious apartments because the homes are build vertically and limited space of parking is occupied because of underground parking facility. For example, in larger cities like Melbourne and Sydney housing buildings provide 5 to 6 flats minimum depending upon the area occupied. As a result we can have more homes in quiet less area and create compact modern society. Building neighborhood with individual living space would require more space because in such neighborhood houses are build with all separate amenities while in building it is a shared space.

Other major benefit of developing this type of real estate is it is very cost effective for people. Private residence in a respected area costs more amount money because of larger building area and private facilities. For instance, an apartment in a city center or near to urban area with an average carpet area are cheaper than private house in the city are of cities like Melbourne and Sydney. Eventually this effectively helps families to maintain their finance and live affordable lifestyle in a larger city moreover it reduces unnecessary burden of housing loans.

In conclusion, taller building accommodates more families than other community living and furthermore it makes housing and maintenance of property affordable by providing shared facilities and cheaper property rates.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding space efficiency and cost-effectiveness are relevant and supported by examples from cities like Melbourne and Sydney. However, the development is somewhat limited; the ideas could be extended further by discussing potential drawbacks or counter-arguments to provide a more balanced and nuanced perspective. While the position is clear, the depth of analysis is more characteristic of a Band 6.5 or 7.0, as it relies on somewhat general observations rather than a sophisticated exploration of urban planning complexities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific theme. There is a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be improved for better coherence. For instance, the opening sentence is slightly disjointed, and some referencing (e.g., 'this argument') could be more precise. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'accommodation areas', 'modern architecture', and 'real estate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'atomic family' (likely meaning 'nuclear family'), 'quiet less area' (should be 'quite less' or 'significantly less'), and 'city are of cities' (a typo). To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more precise and sophisticated lexical choices and ensure correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the concept of an atomic family'), subject-verb agreement ('reasons for this is'), and verb forms ('homes are build' instead of 'built'). Punctuation is also inconsistent in places. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on accuracy would help improve this score.
