Student answer (Band 6.0)

In several countries, people build tall apartments in large cities to fulfil the need of accommodation and they think it is the best way. This believe and statement has hotly debated in the society in recent years. In this essay, I will discuss about this argument and also give my opinion that either I agree or disagree with this statement.

To commence with, large cities are becoming more and more populated. The reason behind this is a lot of amenities provided in big cities. For instance, several hospitals, shopping malls, resturants and schools are present in cities but these thing are not present in rural areas like villages and small towns. Therefore, several individuals start migration to cities from villages to get all facilities. That's why builders build large apartments to provide accomodation to everyone in the city. I also agree with this statement and believe that this is a good decison for everone.

However, there are several advantages of building apartments instead of homes but there are also some drawbacks. First of all, apartments are not suitable for disabled persons. For example, if the lift is not working for some reason, then it is very difficult to that disable person who live in upper apartments. In addition, those apartments are very expensive that build in the building in main area of the city where all facilities are present. Therefore, lot of people can't afford that apartments.

To sum up all, I firmly believe that this statement is right and i totally agree with it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited. While you mention the need for accommodation and the benefits of city living, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about disabled access is a relevant drawback, but it is not fully connected to the overall argument about whether tall buildings are the 'best' way to provide housing. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a more detailed explanation or a concrete example that directly supports your stance. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'For instance', and 'However'. However, the flow between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the benefits and drawbacks is abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'those apartments are very expensive that build in the building in main area', where the connection to the previous point is slightly muddled. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the one before it.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple terms like 'big cities', 'good decision', and 'things'. There are also some spelling errors ('believe' instead of 'belief', 'resturants', 'accomodation', 'decison') and awkward collocations, such as 'fulfil the need of accommodation'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning, such as 'high-density housing', 'infrastructure', 'urban sprawl', or 'socio-economic factors'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you express your ideas with more clarity and impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'This believe and statement has hotly debated', 'these thing are not present', and 'that disable person who live in upper apartments'. There are also issues with article usage and pluralization. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb forms, and the proper use of articles to improve the accuracy of your writing.
