Student answer (Band 7.0)
During the last few decades, the population around the world has been growing dramaticaly. This phenomenon led to an increased number of citizens in almost all the world's major cities. To house this increasing number of people all the possible options have been subject of numerous debates. While some argue that the most convinent way to cover this need is to build apartment blocks others believe that should not be the case.
As far as I am concerned, I truly believe that the disadvantages of apartment blocks clearly outweigh their benefits. Hence, other housing methods should be prioritized.
First of all, it is undeniable that apartment blocks have great advantages. For instance, for the same land area those buildings could be home to several times more people than usual houses. Satisfying needs and adressing the problem in a faster and more optimized way. Moreover, housing people through apartment blocks represents a fraction of the money needed for housing them individualy in houses.
Building homes house by house is also far more time consuming than building them simultanuously through apartment blocks. Making these buildings far more effective to adressing the housing crisis than any other method.
However, considering only this perspective may overlook other important factors and lead to an incomplete understanding of the broader issue. As a matter of fact, apartment blocks have a great number of downsides. From security problems to quality of life both of these two aspects are compromised. Living in a small apartment could have numerous impacts on one's life. Privacy, as an example is a serious issue. In an apartment where people live next to each other separated by only a thin wall, talking becomes a major conflict source. Leading to complicated relationships between neighbors that could intensify already existing problems.
To conclude, even though at first glance apartment blocks appeared to be a solution to the long lasting problems it became later clear that it was just displacing them rather than solving them. In the future, to avoid these situations medias and governments should promote the countryside life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have identified both the advantages and disadvantages of high-rise living, which provides a balanced view before concluding. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention 'security problems' and 'quality of life', these points are not fully explored or supported with concrete examples. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main point is supported by a specific explanation or a real-world example. The conclusion introduces a new idea—promoting countryside life—which was not previously discussed in the body paragraphs; it is better to summarise your existing arguments rather than introducing new solutions at the very end.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'However' to signal transitions between ideas. However, some of the linking is slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more seamless.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'phenomenon', 'optimized', and 'housing crisis'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'dramaticaly', 'convinent', 'adressing', 'individualy', and 'simultanuously'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do affect the overall impression of your writing. You also rely on some repetitive phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure you proofread for common spelling mistakes. Expanding your vocabulary to include more nuanced synonyms for common words will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('the countryside life') and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Satisfying needs and adressing the problem...'). Some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction, which occasionally requires the reader to re-read to grasp the intended meaning. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Additionally, ensure that your complex sentences are grammatically complete and punctuated correctly to enhance clarity and flow.
