Student answer (Band 6.0)
We know that due to increasing in population people are facing house problems. Some people think that building large apartment building is best way to cope with housing problem in large metropolis cities. I strongly agree with this approach.
To begin with, one major benefit of tall apartment blocks and vertical buildings is that it cover less space as compared to houses. As we know buying a land in big cities such as Singapore and Hong Kong is very expensive. By building vertical building instead of horizontal ,government and developers can provide home to thousand of people without expanding the city boundaries. This also helps to protect farmland and green spaces from being converted into residential areas.
Moving ahead, mostly this apartments are build near schools, workplaces, shopping centers and grocery store which will lead to less commuting time for people to their jobs adding to this traffic will also come in control because people can easily travel from public transport or walk to their jobs and stores. For example in Canada and USA be already seen many benefits from this approach of building tall buildings.
In conculision, i strongly agree with approach of building vertical buildings in large cities because it well help to solve the proble

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the arguments remain underdeveloped. For instance, you mention the benefits of vertical living in cities like Singapore and Hong Kong, but the explanation is brief. The conclusion is also incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed examples and ensure the essay is fully completed. Because the response is under-length and the conclusion is missing, it does not fully address all parts of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moving ahead', and 'For example' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by the brevity of the text and the abrupt ending. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of a finished conclusion makes the overall structure feel incomplete. To achieve a higher score, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your ideas are linked more fluidly throughout the entire piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'metropolis', 'vertical buildings', and 'commuting time'. However, there are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'increasing in population' (should be 'population growth'), 'it cover less space' (should be 'they cover'), and 'mostly this apartments are build' (should be 'mostly these apartments are built'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of plural forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the' housing problem), verb tenses ('are build'), and pluralisation ('thousand of people'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the flow of the writing. To reach a higher band, you should proofread your work to correct basic errors in sentence construction and ensure consistent use of articles and verb forms.
