Student answer (Band 7.0)
Large cities around the world are facing a growing housing shortage due to rapid population growth. Some people believe that constructing tall apartment buildings is the most effective solution to this problem. I largely agree with this view because high-rise buildings can accomodate more residents while making efficient use of limited urban land.
One major advantage of tall apartment blocks is that they allow a large number of people to live in a relatively small area. In many cities, available land is scare and expensive. By building upwards, governments and developers can provide housing for thousands of residents without expanding the city boundaries. For example, citites such as singapore and hongkong have sucessfully used high-rise residental buildings to house large populations.
Another benefits is that apartment complexes are often located close to public services and transportation systems. this enables residents to acess schools, hospitals, workplaces, and shopping centers more convientl, As a result, commuting times can be reduced, which helps improve people's quality of life and decreases traffic congestion.
However, relying sloley on tall apartment blocks may create certin problems. Overcrowded high-rise developments can place pressure on public infrastructure and reduce green spaces. In addition, some families may prefer living in houses with private gardens, especially those with children. Therefore, city planners should also consider developing suburban areas and improving transport links to create a balanced housing strategy.
In conclusion, I agree that tall apartment buildings are one of the most effective ways to provide sufficient housing in large cities beacuse they maximize land use and support urban conenvience. Nevertheless, they should be combined with other housing solution to ensure sustaniable and comforatble living conditions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments for both the benefits of high-rise living (land efficiency, proximity to services) and the potential drawbacks (infrastructure pressure, lack of green space). The ideas are well-developed and supported by examples such as Singapore and Hong Kong. The conclusion effectively synthesizes your position, acknowledging the necessity of a balanced approach. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are slightly more detailed to further strengthen the depth of your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'One major advantage', 'Another benefits', and 'However' to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. While the flow is generally smooth, some cohesive devices are slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this enables') clearly points back to the intended antecedent to avoid any ambiguity.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urban land', 'infrastructure', and 'sustainable'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'accomodate', 'scare' (intended: scarce), 'citites', 'sucessfully', 'residental', 'acess', 'convientl', 'sloley', 'certin', 'conenvience', and 'sustaniable'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for common spelling patterns will significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There is good control over sentence construction, and your meaning is consistently clear. However, there are minor grammatical slips, such as 'Another benefits is' (should be 'Another benefit is') and punctuation errors, including a comma splice in 'more convientl, As a result'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall clarity of your writing. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help you achieve a higher band.
