Student answer (Band 6.5)

In large cities, solution to provide enough homes to residents is building tall apartment blocks. However, I largely agree with this view as it is a better way to accomodate more people.

To begin with, in urban areas where people live in small houses and do not have enough space for their comfortable life-style. In order to provide higher standard of living , constructed tall buildings is a best way. Despite of spreading urban areas, build tall Upwards apartment blocks and manage adequate space for densely populated areas. In larger cities shortage of houses is primary a major issue and communities have limited urban land. To make better use of Limited land create multistorey buildings that can provide basic public facilities such as education, healthcare ,shopping centres and transports. For example, Singapore and Hong Kong are successfully developed and addressed public needs by constructed tall towers.

In addition, tall building blocks should developed alongside proper public needs. However managing and building apartment blocks are not easy. It requires proper infrastructure, urban land, budget and careful planning. To rely entirely on tall building blocks is create challenges. If the government could fail to provide adequate facilities, residents may experience overcrowding, pressure on the public service and lack of green space. Though, construct a modern tall building appartments is a healthy approach of the government to form a sustainable community. Where they have parks, schools and other amenities in one place. It can reduce the traffic congestion on the roads and cities have less environmental issues.

In conclusion, I largely agree that construct a upwards apartment blocks is a effective method to solve shortage of houses in lage cities. Nevertheless, it can be manage with proper investment, planning and infrastructure to develop a sustainable and viable socities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, such as land scarcity and the integration of public facilities. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the mention of Singapore and Hong Kong provides a good example, some arguments, such as the mention of 'education' and 'healthcare' within buildings, are slightly underdeveloped. The position is consistent throughout, though the conclusion could have been more robust in summarizing the main points. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well enough to meet the requirements for a Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 due to some lack of depth in supporting arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow of ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the discussion of infrastructure and the mention of green space. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved to ensure a smoother progression of ideas. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly repetitive in their structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'densely populated', 'infrastructure', and 'sustainable community'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'constructed tall buildings is a best way' and 'construct a upwards apartment blocks'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the range and precision of the language. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on more accurate word forms and collocations, particularly regarding verb-noun pairings.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and articles (e.g., 'If the government could fail', 'construct a upwards apartment blocks', 'it can be manage'). These errors are noticeable but rarely impede the reader's understanding. The punctuation is generally functional, though there are some issues with comma usage. To improve, the student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive and active voice constructions to ensure greater accuracy in their complex sentence attempts.
