Student answer (Band 6.5)

Tall Apartments in large cities is undoubtedly a good way to provide enough homes in big cities. I somehow agree with this statement.

The first reason is that there are not enough resources available in rural areas and people wants to move to cities for better facilities which may include education, lifestyle, food and access to other things of daily use. Consequently, they need a home to live in. The single and double stories houses in different areas of the cities are so expensive that it becomes extremely difficult for a middle class person to meet the demands of the owners even if they want to live on rent. For example, apart from paying the rent, sometimes they have to manage the renovations as well. Most importantly, paying a huge amount of security at the start is also an issue for many. Sometimes the location of the houses is also in far areas and hence they also have to spend on fuel. Keeping these things in mind, I believe that the government should build apartment blocks in the city center or on appropriate locations where all the necessary facilities are available. This will help them have their own house where they can live according to their style without paying any extra charges for renovations and securities.

Another factor is that this will save the land which can be used for local buisnesses. Ultimately, the sale and purchase will boost the economy of the country.

However, it will have some serious consequences as well and a big factor among that is pollution. If majority will start moving towards the cities there will be an immense increase in traffic which obviously leads to bad air quality.

In conclusion, the best way would be proper planning to avoid this. Either there should be ban on unnecessary traffic and people should use public transport or the government should provide all the basic facilities in urban areas so that people can spend their lives there peacefully without rushing toward the cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have identified key arguments regarding housing affordability and land efficiency. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. While the point about housing costs is well-supported, the argument regarding land use and the economy is quite brief and could have been expanded with more specific reasoning. Additionally, the conclusion introduces a new, slightly contradictory argument about developing rural areas, which shifts the focus away from the main prompt. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments directly support your central thesis and are developed with equal depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'consequently', 'for example', and 'however', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, the jump from the benefits of apartments to the economic argument in the third paragraph lacks a smooth connection. Furthermore, the final paragraph introduces a new solution that feels disconnected from the previous discussion on tall apartment blocks. Improving the use of referencing and more sophisticated linking words would help create a more seamless progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renovations', 'security', and 'immense increase'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'appropriate locations' or 'meet the demands of the owners'. There are also minor spelling errors, such as 'buisnesses'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to urban planning and housing, and ensure that your word choices are precise rather than generic. The current vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people wants to move', 'majority will start') and article usage (e.g., 'in far areas'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Tall Apartments in large cities is undoubtedly a good way'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that plural/singular nouns are used correctly throughout your writing.
