Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that the better way to give a specific house in larger cities is to design a big housing schemes. I totally agree with this statement. The essay below will discuss the way of providing better house in urban areas and arguments in the support of my answer.

To begin with, nowadays many people suffered in living smaller apartments or some suffered from not having any room. The best way for community to live peaceful is to live in a tall apartment. For instance, we have seen that in biggest cities there are not enough apartment for people to live, so they faced a lot of difficulties such as problem with finding a new home and waste their major time in finding. Therefore, it should lead them into serious issues such as not having an apartment for live.

Furthermore, if government would build the taller and structured buildings that is beneficial for their own city. In contrast, when foreign minister or chiefs visit our city they will see the designed apartment blocks and embraced from them. As a result, that gives profit and an elegant view point from different people to the government industry.

In conclusion, to sum up these factors both the government and society have benefit from it. Building enough and tall apartments can be grateful for the society because they don't have to suffer in living small home or finding a good apartment. Thus, this development can give profit, a beauty and a peaceful environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument regarding 'foreign ministers' visiting cities is tangential and does not directly support the core issue of housing provision. The points about urban density and government benefits are mentioned but lack depth or specific evidence. To improve, you should focus on providing more logical, relevant arguments, such as the efficiency of land use or the socio-economic impact of high-density living, rather than focusing on aesthetic or political impressions. The response is somewhat repetitive in its reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore', they are occasionally used in a mechanical way. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'embraced from them', where the pronoun reference is confusing. The conclusion effectively summarises the main points, but the overall flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'give a specific house' instead of 'provide housing' and 'waste their major time' instead of 'spend a significant amount of time'. Some phrases are repetitive, and there is a lack of topic-specific collocations related to urban planning or architecture. To improve, focus on learning word families and common collocations used in academic contexts to express your ideas more naturally and precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'many people suffered in living smaller apartments' (should be 'suffer from living in') and 'not having an apartment for live' (should be 'for living'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense and article usage would be beneficial.
