Student answer (Band 6.5)

Tall Apartments in large cities is undoubtedly a good way to provide enough homes in big cities. I somehow agree with this statement.

The first reason is that there are not enough resources available in rural areas and people wants to move to cities for better facilities which may include education, lifestyle, food and access to other things of daily use. Consequently, they need a home to live in. The single and double stories houses in different areas of the cities are so expensive that it becomes extremely difficult for a middle class person to meet the demands of the owners even if they want to live on rent. For example, apart from paying the rent, sometimes they have to manage the renovations as well. Most importantly, paying a huge amount of security at the start is also an issue for many. Sometimes the location of the houses is also in far areas and hence they also have to spend on fuel. Keeping these things in mind, I believe that the government should build apartment blocks in the city center or on appropriate locations where all the necessary facilities are available. This will help them have their own house where they can live according to their style without paying any extra charges for renovations and securities.

Another factor is that this will save the land which can be used for local buisnesses. Ultimately, the sale and purchase will boost the economy of the country.

However, it will have some serious consequences as well and a big factor among that is pollution. If majority will start moving towards the cities there will be an immense increase in traffic which obviously leads to bad air quality.

In conclusion, the best way would be proper planning to avoid this. Either there should be ban on unnecessary traffic and people should use public transport or the government should provide all the basic facilities in urban areas so that people can spend their lives there peacefully without rushing toward the cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You provide relevant reasons for supporting tall apartment blocks, such as affordability and land efficiency. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the economic benefits of land saving is quite brief and lacks depth. Additionally, the conclusion introduces a new, slightly contradictory idea about developing rural areas rather than focusing on the prompt's core issue of city housing. To improve, ensure that every paragraph directly supports your main thesis and provides sufficient elaboration or examples to fully explore the implications of your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'consequently,' 'for example,' and 'in conclusion,' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the benefits of apartments and the drawbacks of pollution is abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within the body paragraphs could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more explicitly stated to guide the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renovations,' 'security,' and 'urban areas.' However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks the precision or sophistication required for higher bands. There are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'meet the demands of the owners' and 'appropriate locations.' To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and less common lexical items. For instance, instead of 'big cities,' use 'metropolitan areas' or 'densely populated urban centers' to show a more flexible command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Tall Apartments in large cities is' (subject-verb agreement), 'people wants' (subject-verb agreement), and 'If majority will start' (missing article and tense error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures while minimizing these frequent, though non-impeding, errors will help you achieve a higher score.
