Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to construct tall apartment blocks. This essay firmly agrees with this viewpoint for several reasons. The primary reason why i hold this view is that it is significantly benifical for wild animals and for controlling the pollution. Many cities do not have space, so they destroy forest to use its land for building homes. Consequently, it leads to serious pollution problems, such as air pollution, and it also damage the wild animals, as they destroyed forest to utilize its land for constructing their homes. For instance, every year pollution increase in Paksitan, as peoples cut a significant amount of trees to construct large societies. Therefore, I completely agree that building a tall appartments instead of many small homes is best way to provide homes. This is because tall apartments occupy less space, as it have many blocks in which many people can live and it can save forest

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 162 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the argument remains superficial and lacks the necessary depth for an academic essay. While a clear position is stated, the supporting points regarding environmental protection are repetitive and under-developed. To reach a higher band, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and additional examples, ensuring you meet the length requirement to fully address all parts of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, consisting of only two blocks of text. While there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices like 'consequently' and 'therefore', the flow of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraph is abrupt. To improve, you should organize your essay into a clear introduction, at least two distinct body paragraphs with topic sentences, and a conclusion. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring clear referencing will help improve the logical progression of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms such as 'homes', 'building', and 'construct'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'benifical', 'appartments', and 'Paksitan', which detract from the overall quality. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should focus on learning synonyms and collocations related to urban planning and environmental issues to enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('it have many blocks', 'pollution increase'), article misuse, and awkward phrasing ('as they destroyed forest to utilize its land'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will lead to immediate improvement.
