Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people believe that constructing tall apartment building is the best solution to this problem. I am partly agree, I think they are helpful but other solution are also needed.
Tall apartment buildings can provide homes for many families in a small area. This is useful because land in big cities is limited and expensive. Building apartment help to save space and gives more people a place to live. Secondly, people living in apartment blocks are often close to schools, hospitals, markets and public transport. This makes life easier and more convenient. It can also reduce travel time and traffic problems.
On the other hand, tall apartment blocks can become overcrowded and noisy. People may have less privacy and children have less space to play. Government should develop small town and improve transport so that people do not have to live only in large cities. This will reduce the pressure on big cities. If we were building tall building than people will face lack of green spaces. High rise buildings are expensive to build and maintain. Some people or families prefer independent houses, to many buildings can increase traffic and pollution.
In conclusion, Tall building are an effective solution, however, cities should also build affordable houses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the argument. While the position is clear, the ideas are somewhat underdeveloped due to the brevity. To improve, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or detailed explanations. For instance, when mentioning 'small towns,' you could explain how decentralization specifically alleviates housing pressure in major hubs. Because the length requirement is not met, the development of ideas is restricted, preventing a higher score in this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Secondly,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the benefits and drawbacks could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to your overall position.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use relevant topic-specific terms like 'overcrowded,' 'public transport,' and 'pollution.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is some repetition of basic words like 'building' and 'cities.' To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of 'building apartment,' you could use 'the construction of high-density residential complexes.' Additionally, ensure you use the correct word forms, such as 'I partly agree' instead of 'I am partly agree.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am partly agree' (I partly agree), 'Building apartment help' (Building apartments helps), and 'If we were building tall building than' (If we build tall buildings, then). These errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, pluralization, and the correct use of conditional structures.
