Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some individuals believe that the best way to give enough houses in big regions is to build large apartment blocks. I partially agree with this view because this will increase accommodation for a large number of families and also motivate people of villages to migrate and gain exposure to large cities, but at the same time, the population of these cities will go beyond the limit.
Firstly, building large apartments will create more space for homeless people. In recent years there are a lot of people in metropolitan cities without a home, staying on a footpath. The big buildings will help these people to stay under the roof. Secondly, in a recent study, researchers have found that the majority of the people want to migrate to cities but can’t because of a lack of accommodations. These large apartments will not only provide spaces to live in but also make them modern. This will encourage them to move to large cities.
On the other hand, building large apartments will allow more people to live in cities, this will overpopulate a city. It has been observed that once the people come to cities, they don’t prefer to go back to their village because of their modern life, this will lead to populate the cities, and at the same time, the villages will be unoccupied. This will lead to environmental imbalance. Additionally, apartments are created on land, and these lands are created by destroying forests and animal habitats, which in turn leads to lower the oxygen level in cities and increase the level of pollution. This will affects the health of individuals.
In conclusion, though large apartments create accommodation and migration, it also create problems in human life in the form of environmental imbalance and health issues. I believe apartments should be created, but at the same time governments and private companies should look to the impact on health and environment of those cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits and drawbacks of tall apartment blocks. You have a clear position, which is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'environmental imbalance' is a good point, but it could be more thoroughly explained with specific examples of how urban density impacts local ecosystems. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but ensure that your main body paragraphs provide more depth to fully explore the complexities of the issue. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. While the progression is generally clear, some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way. For example, the transition between the idea of migration and the environmental impact could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall flow. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the logical structure of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'metropolitan', 'accommodation', and 'environmental imbalance'. However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'give enough houses' (provide sufficient housing) and 'stay under the roof' (have a roof over their heads). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'make them modern'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly, it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'this will lead to populate the cities' (this will lead to overpopulation) and 'this will affects the health' (this will affect the health). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are occasionally inconsistent. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on refining your use of complex structures and ensuring consistent verb tense and agreement. You have a solid foundation, but more attention to detail in your sentence construction will help you achieve a higher score.
