Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, there is a shortage of homes in big cities. Some people says that the best method to provide sufficient homes in large cities is to construct long apartment blocks. I completely agree with this statement. This essay will argue why constructing tall building in urban areas is the best way to provide sufficient homes.

On the one hand, some individuals thinks building tall apartment blocks can provide enough houses in big cities. It is because, cities do not have unlimited space for constructing single homes for its citizens. Additionally, people from the rural suburbs also moves to the urban areas for better quality of life which in turn, has increased the population in the cities. For instance, china is building mega tall residential buildings in cities, in order to accommodate the rising demand of housing. For these reasons, constructing long apartment is the only way to ensure enough living places in big cities.

On the other hand, government can solve the house problems in the large cities by providing excellent facilities and creating job opportunities in the urban areas. These steps will not only stop the urbanization of the cities but will also prevent the housing crises as well. For example, in Pakistan, government is planning to build industries in the rural areas to create jobs. It is a difficult task but still government is trying for it. This will ensure people will stay there and will not move to cities for searching work.

This essay argued why the best way to provide sufficient in urban areas is to construct long buildings. In my opinion, it is the only way to ensure enough houses are present for the citizens of the large cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph supports the argument for tall buildings, the second body paragraph introduces a counter-argument regarding rural development that is not fully integrated into the main thesis. The essay would benefit from more depth in explaining why tall buildings are the 'best' solution compared to other alternatives, rather than just stating they are necessary. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and lacks a summary of the main points discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Additionally', and 'For instance', but some transitions feel mechanical or slightly repetitive. The logical progression is generally clear, though the shift between the argument for tall buildings and the suggestion for rural development in the second body paragraph creates a slight disconnect in the flow of the argument. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the central ideas are identifiable.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks variety and precision. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'big cities', 'enough', and 'good'. Phrases such as 'long apartment blocks' are slightly unnatural; 'high-rise' or 'multi-story' would be more accurate. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'house problems' instead of 'housing shortages'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and infrastructure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Some people says', 'individuals thinks', 'government is planning') and pluralization (e.g., 'constructing long apartment'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Improving control over basic grammatical rules and ensuring consistent verb agreement will significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
