Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that the perfect way to provide enough accommodation in big cities is to build high apartment blocks. I am totally agree with this statement.

Firstly, People wants to always live in large city. Because there are so many facilities people are getting from the big cities. Population become increase regularly in the main cities. They need to perfect place to stay on city area. For example, Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh. Most of the time people come to our city for their work, study, or business purposes. I think Dhaka is more centralized rather than other big cities in the world. There are so many people need a good place to stay with their family. If authority takes to initiative provide enough home with perfect plan like build large blocks in the apartment it must be helpful for the society.

Secondly, if we get large apartment block it becomes to reduce over population in city. Moreover, maximum number of people stay in a specific place and build a big communities to their apartments. Furthermore, I also disagree with this statement because it increases traffic more on the city. However, if more people stay at same places it must be crowd places anywhere. For example, there are some residential areas in our capital city. The traffic become rise on the school and office hours. In contrast, they build up the large communities on their living place and they helps each other arrange functional program in special occasions. They are always connect to each other like children plays at afternoon, older people go to morning and evening walk, also gossip to each other.

In conclusion, there are some positivity on this statement and some negativity against on this statement. Overall, I agree with this statement because if we process it according to this statement it might be helpful for the communities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt but suffers from a lack of clarity regarding the writer's position. While the introduction states agreement, the second paragraph introduces a contradictory argument ('I also disagree with this statement'), which confuses the reader and weakens the overall position. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of Dhaka and the social benefits of apartment living, but they are often under-developed or presented in a disjointed manner. To improve, you should maintain a consistent stance throughout the essay and ensure that each paragraph focuses on supporting that specific position rather than oscillating between agreement and disagreement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by confusing transitions and contradictory statements. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly. For example, the transition 'In contrast' is used to introduce a point that actually supports the idea of community living rather than contrasting it. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'big', 'good', and 'place' throughout the text. There are also instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'Population become increase' instead of 'The population is increasing' and 'take to initiative' instead of 'take the initiative'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations. For instance, instead of 'big cities', try 'metropolitan areas' or 'densely populated urban centers'. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated synonyms will help convey your ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('People wants', 'The traffic become rise'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'If authority takes to initiative provide enough home... it must be helpful'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
