Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued by some people that the building of large apartment blocks in cities are the greatest way to provide more homes. Although some people might disagree with the statement but i completely agree with the notion ,not only because of housing facilities, better employment but also because of educational purposes. This essay will explore how these factors justify my opinion.

Firstly, the predominent reason that compelled me to agree with this statement is the need of houses that people demand when they move from villages to cities beacuse the population of cities has increased alarmingly so people face lack of living spaces. For example, according to the research conducted by US government, tall buildings with maximum blocks has coverd the housing needs of people. Thus, this factor can almost single handedly express my opinion.

Secondly, the additional compelling point to support my stance is the source of better job opportunities that peolple need while living in cities so tall buildings can fulfill thier living desires. For instance, according to an article published in "The Dawn' newspaper, indicated that 45% of people shifted from rural areas to urban just because of better employment sources.Hence, this factor can clearly justify my opinion.

Finally, another considerable reason is higher studies that people persue and for this they have to move toward cities. Moreover, the best way is to build more apartments because it will take less space.

To conclude, i believe that i completely agree with this statement, not only because of good job opportunities and housing needs but also because of profitable educational purposes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention housing, employment, and education, the arguments lack depth and specific analysis. For instance, the claim that tall buildings 'fulfill living desires' is vague. The examples provided, such as the reference to a US government study or 'The Dawn' newspaper, are generic and lack sufficient detail to fully support the points made. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments, providing more logical connections between the solution (tall buildings) and the problems (urbanization).

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Finally', and 'To conclude' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between the research and the argument is weak. The flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next rather than relying on repetitive introductory phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'better', and 'reasons'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'predominent' (predominant), 'beacuse' (because), 'coverd' (covered), and 'persue' (pursue). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to urban planning and sociology, and ensure you proofread for common spelling mistakes that detract from the professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the building... are'), incorrect use of conjunctions ('Although... but'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, focus on mastering complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, and pay closer attention to basic grammar rules like subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
