Student answer (Band 7.0)
As more people move to larger cities, the demand for houses increases but the available land remains nearly constant. It has been argued that in order to provide enough homes in cities, it is advisable to build tall apartments.
In the recent decades, many countries have experienced people migrating from rural areas to big cities in search of opportunities and a better lifestyle. The development of cities could not keep pace with this growing urban population. As a result there is not enough land for everyone to get there own house. To tackle this, tall apartment blocks are constructed so that more people could live on the same piece of land and everyone gets enough size homes. Another advantage of apartments is that everybody could get access to shared amenities of the apartment such as club house, gym, garden, etc.
While the apartments solve the housing problem. Many people think that they do not get enough privacy in apartment style houses as the houses are nearby and others could see in to your house or listen to your conversation. In certain cases, the renovation at one home could cause problems to others living in the society due to the noise and non resident individuals entering the society raises safety concerns. But it is important to realise that the apartments are one of the reason why the housing prices in major cities are in control and everybody could afford a house of their own.
To conclude, I completely agree that tall apartments are the best way to provide quality and affordable housing to everyone. Apartments ensure that the growing urban population has homes and prevents people from resorting to living in slums.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the task and maintained a clear position throughout. Your arguments regarding urban density and affordability are relevant and well-supported. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the counter-argument regarding privacy and safety is introduced but could be more thoroughly explored to demonstrate a deeper level of critical thinking. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully extended with specific examples or logical consequences. Overall, your response is focused and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In the recent decades', 'As a result', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical or repetitive manner. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas between sentences is smoother, particularly when shifting from the benefits of apartments to the drawbacks.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urban population', 'amenities', and 'renovation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'get there own house' (should be 'their') and 'housing prices... are in control' (should be 'under control'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more academic synonyms for common words to enhance the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'In the recent decades' (should be 'In recent decades'), 'everyone gets enough size homes' (awkward phrasing), and 'apartments are one of the reason' (should be 'reasons'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher score.
