Student answer (Band 7.0)

In today's world, housing is one of the biggest challenges that people are facing around the globe. Some people believe that bulding tall apartment blocks would solve home shortages and elevate congestions in urban areas. While I agree that this approach can help to some extent, I do not beleive that this is the ultimate solution.

Finding houses to live can be both difficult and expensive especially in cities. Reasons such as congestions, limited options, and high prices of rents are common problems faced by future renters. In order to solve this, some people suggested about the building of tall apartment blocks. They argue that by having one big infrastructure, they can accommodate the increasing number of renters while also solving the problem of congestion. This solution can definitely help renters and even landlords.

Despite of the advantages, I do not entirely agree that this can be the ultimate solution. Although, landlords can now accept new tenants, these people will have limited space for their household. If family with children will rent a small apartment, it can feel cramped and might lose their privacy. Also, by living in these apartments, residents have limited control with the outside noise. As the rooms usually built with thin walls, there will be less privacyThere is least privacy. Landlords should also consider the actual cost of building such tall infrstructures. They have to consider the safety,g expenses, as well as the maintenance of the building.

In my opionion, instead of choosing one best solution, landlords and local authorities should work together in finding other sustainable solutions for limited housing and congestion. Possible alternatives such as converting old buldings into apartments, developing unused lands into residential one, and develop subrub areas near the city center.

In conclusion, bulding tall apartment blocks to help reduce congestion and scarcity of housing in major cities. However, it is not a complete answer, and a broader range of policies and developments should take into consideration and action to address these complex urban challenges.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that acknowledges the benefits of tall apartment blocks while arguing that they are not the sole solution. Your ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of privacy concerns and infrastructure costs. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully developed. For instance, when discussing 'sustainable solutions' in the fourth paragraph, providing a specific example of how converting old buildings works would strengthen your argument. Overall, your response is balanced and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Despite of the advantages' (though note the grammatical error) and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by minor errors, such as the repetitive phrase 'There is least privacy' appearing immediately after a previous sentence about privacy. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure,' 'scarcity,' and 'sustainable.' However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'bulding,' 'beleive,' 'opionion,' and 'subrub.' Additionally, some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'developing unused lands into residential one' (should be 'residential areas'). To achieve a higher score, focus on accuracy in spelling and collocation. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated, topic-specific collocations would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Despite of the advantages' (should be 'Despite the advantages'), 'If family with children will rent' (should be 'If a family... rents'), and 'As the rooms usually built' (should be 'As the rooms are usually built'). Furthermore, there are some punctuation and sentence fragment issues, such as 'There is least privacy.' To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles.
