Student answer (Band 6.5)

Housing problem is one of the most biggest problem in the mega cities and building tall appartments can help to address the problem. I agree that building sky scrappers is one of the most easiest way to address the housing issue in the large cities.

The most concerning and the challenging part which every one can relate is unavailablity of the homes in the mega cities. Building the tall appartments can help to address this problem as that perticular block of land can hold multiple floors and each floor can hold multiple houses. Additionally a buyer also gets a huge amount of ammenities like sports room, gym and swimming pool which an individual has to pay seperately if he do not live in appartment. A study was conducted in the london during 1950s reveals that housing problem was decreased by 40 percents when they have build the sky scrappers in the main streets of london. In conclusion, building large and tall building is the good idea as it can helps to resolve the problem of housing in the large cities.

On the contrary, there is the strong reason to believe that long building comes with a large amount of cost. Just developing a small building can cost millions of investment. A research has been conducted a few years back states that developing building with just 15 floors in a building has cost approx 700 million dollars to a developer in the USA. Overall, Building a sky scrapper comes with a huge cost.

In conclusion, developing the tall building is a good idea for the large cities but some factors should be taken into the considerations like safety and affordablity and there should be a small amount.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, although the development of ideas is somewhat limited. You provide reasons for both sides of the argument, such as space efficiency and amenities versus high construction costs. However, the supporting evidence, such as the reference to a 1950s London study and the specific cost of a 15-floor building in the USA, lacks sufficient detail and context to be fully persuasive. To improve, ensure that your supporting examples are more thoroughly explained and directly linked to the main argument to demonstrate a deeper level of critical thinking.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Additionally', 'On the contrary', and 'In conclusion', to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the final paragraph is confusingly structured, as it introduces a new conclusion after a previous one. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus without repeating concluding statements.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'mega cities', 'amenities', and 'investment'. However, there are several spelling errors ('appartments', 'sky scrappers', 'ammenities', 'seperately', 'perticular') and some awkward word choices. The repetition of basic phrases like 'address this problem' and 'good idea' limits your score. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and try to incorporate more precise academic collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('each floor can hold', 'if he do not live', 'it can helps') and article usage errors ('the london', 'the good idea'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly verb forms and the use of articles, and proofread your work to catch these common slips.
