Student answer (Band 6.5)

For urban areas and national development, few things are more important than ensuring a high quality of life for residents. In many developed and developing countries, substantial investment is allocated to apartment blocks and public infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, supermarkets, and environmental protection. From my perspective, I strongly agree that both clean apartment blocks and high-quality public services are equally important for people living in large cities.

On the one hand, apartment blocks in the form of national development is considered more essential for large cities, creating reliable opportunities for living standards and better public services that are not available from other sources. Moreover, it demonstrates unparalleled benefits for individuals and society, permeating and enhancing every conceivable sector society. Since government and seek economic stability and fulfilment through in sustainable development, ample investment in apartment blocks is imperative to elevate modern living standards. If this is adopted by governments and individuals alike, many society stand to benefit significantly. Apartment blocks in nations such as Singapore, for instance, has emerged as a pivotal model for national prosperity, delivering enhanced opportunities for population.

On the other hand, government may shy away from ensuring a high quality of life for residents due to a range of challenges, such as financial constraints, limited timing, unequal education, lack of time, and family responsibilities. While apartment blocks is widely embraced in many major cities worldwide, people impoverished in developing nations frequently contend with profound financial limitations and deteriorating conditions when striving to implement this approach. From economic, social, and national perspective, if the goals of building a prosperous and sustainable development dictate that economic growth together are not merely an option but an imperative, governments may choose to embrace balanced national development.

In conclusion, it is the responsibility of governments to ensure balanced urban development by investing not only in apartment blocks but also in high-quality public services and environmental protection. Therefore, it is evident that prioritising sustainable and well-rounded development, rather than focusing solely on economic growth, is the most beneficial approach for society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt but struggles with focus. While you take a position, the argument becomes somewhat muddled by discussing public services and environmental protection, which are not the primary focus of the prompt regarding 'tall apartment blocks'. The development of ideas is repetitive, and the link between the specific solution (tall buildings) and the broader goal (quality of life) is not fully explored. To improve, ensure your supporting points directly relate to the specific method mentioned in the prompt rather than general urban planning concepts. Your position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Moreover' to signal transitions. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by vague phrasing, such as 'permeating and enhancing every conceivable sector society'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between ideas could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one without unnecessary repetition.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary, including terms like 'pivotal model', 'national prosperity', and 'imperative'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation, such as 'people impoverished' instead of 'impoverished people' and 'limited timing' which does not fit the context. Some phrases are overly wordy or imprecise, which limits your ability to convey complex ideas with precision. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and avoid using complex-sounding phrases if you are not entirely sure of their natural usage in a specific context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'Apartment blocks... has emerged' (should be 'have emerged') and 'many society stand' (should be 'many societies stand'). Additionally, there are errors with prepositions and article usage, such as 'from economic, social, and national perspective' (should be 'from an economic... perspective'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and pluralization.
