Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding 'scenery' as a primary benefit of high-rise living is a weak point that lacks depth compared to the core issue of urban housing shortages. While the response covers both sides, the supporting examples, such as the reference to a 'famous architecture named Taylor', are vague and lack credibility. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on more substantial arguments related to urban planning, such as land efficiency, infrastructure sustainability, or social density.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'shifting towards the agreement', and 'Furthermore'. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'shifting towards the agreement'. Additionally, there are issues with punctuation, specifically missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'years, people', 'Taylor, revealed'), which disrupts the flow of reading. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help your writing feel more cohesive and professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on simple phrases like 'good for larger cities' and 'big apartment building'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'preferred to bought' (should be 'preferred to buy') and 'see the nature nearly' (which is unclear). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to urban development, such as 'high-density housing', 'urban sprawl', 'infrastructure', or 'sustainable living'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it is the good', 'there are some drawback'), incorrect verb forms ('preferred to bought'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also a significant issue, with many instances of missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic sentence construction and punctuation consistency.
