Student answer (Band 6.5)

The population in large cities is increasing thus getting house is becoming difficult. I totally agree with this concept of building a tall apartment instaed of standalone house. In most of metro cities this cocnept is alraedy implemnted on large scale.

Firstly, the tall apartment require less ground surface area which helps to build enough homes in large cities. This is because in metro cities there is less land available for house as population in increasing day by day. So to accomodate higher number of peoples with-in small area tall apartments is best choice. For 1 acer of land if we build standalone single house we can accomodate 1000 people, where as for tall buildings within same area of land we can accomodate 4000 people. Hence more number of people can stay for the same ground surface area.

Furthermore, for building individual house we need to build foundation every time which is not sustainabe and require high investment, in contrast tall apartment require only one strong foundation. This is beacuse big towers or skyscrapper building has one strong foundation on which different homes are build. This resulted in sustainable growth and saving of cost as resources utilized for building foundation is reduced.

In conclusion, i totally agree that in large cities tall apartments are better option compared to individual houses due to increase in population. Moreover apartments requires less surafce area and we can save huge cost in apartments as we dont need to invest in foundation. Also tall buildings are sustainable in large cities as resources utilized to build them are less.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, focusing on land efficiency and cost-effectiveness. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the comparison between 1,000 and 4,000 people per acre is a good attempt at supporting the argument, but the explanation regarding foundation costs is slightly repetitive and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the social or environmental implications of high-density living rather than focusing solely on construction logistics. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, maintaining a consistent position throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly disjointed due to grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid rather than relying on simple sequence markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'ground surface area', 'sustainable', and 'skyscrapper'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'instaed', 'cocnept', 'alraedy', 'implemnted', 'accomodate', and 'surafce'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To achieve a higher score, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or academic vocabulary to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'the tall apartment require' (subject-verb agreement), 'population in increasing' (preposition/verb form), and 'apartments requires' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Focusing on proofreading for these basic errors will significantly improve your score.
