Student answer (Band 6.5)
Construction of large apartments is the best strategy to build a huge number of houses for residents in urban areas. I totally agree with this idea because apartments could save natural land, prevent deforestation, and fulfill the demand of their residents.
Building an apartment could facilitate their people in various ways. The main reason for global warming is deforestation. People are constructing their houses and cutting the trees, especially for houses in societies. Extensive cutting of trees is affecting our environment and causing pollution, floods, and a sudden rise in temperature. This problem is associated with the high demand for land for houses. The construction of apartments can help to save our natural environment and slow down the issue of global warming.
Another advantage of flats is that land in big cities is too expensive. A middle-class person could not afford to buy land and construct their dream home. However, they preferred to buy an affordable apartment on installment or with cash. So, flats can be budget-friendly and provide the best standard of life according to our budget. In addition, public transport can be easily available, and it saves their fuel.
In contrast, a few disadvantages should also be addressed. Firstly, building many apartments in one location could lead to the place becoming more rushed and crowded. Secondly, traffic pressure would be increased, which would disturb the local residents of that area. These issues can be solved by taking effective measures.
In conclusion, construction of flats has l

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the conclusion, which prevents a full development of the final summary. Additionally, the response falls just short of the 250-word minimum requirement. While the ideas regarding environmental impact and affordability are relevant and supported, the lack of a finished conclusion and the failure to meet the length requirement limit the score. To improve, ensure you fully develop your concluding thoughts and aim for a slightly higher word count to ensure all parts of the task are addressed thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'The main reason', 'Another advantage', 'However', and 'In contrast' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the progression is generally logical, the abrupt ending disrupts the overall flow of the piece. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, but the transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion is missing due to the incomplete nature of the final sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a complete structure would enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. Phrases like 'facilitate their people', 'budget-friendly', and 'effective measures' are used appropriately. However, there is a lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary that would elevate the response to a higher band. Some word choices are slightly repetitive or simplistic, such as 'huge number of houses' or 'rushed and crowded'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and less common lexical items related to urban planning and environmental issues.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'facilitate their people' (which is awkward phrasing) and 'a middle-class person could not afford... they preferred' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are minor errors in article usage and prepositional phrases. The range of structures is sufficient to communicate the argument, but more consistent control over complex sentence forms and error-free writing is needed to reach a higher band.
