Student answer (Band 6.5)
Rapid urbanization has led to an increase in demand for housing in large cities. while some people argue that tall buildings are a best way to overcome this issue, I disagree with this opinion because other approaches such as developing suburban areas and improving transport facilities are more suitable.
We can't deny the benefits of living in large cities as they provide better living but there are some serious drawbacks as well. It has been seen that majority of the community is interested in moving to the big cities but, first thing is not everyone can afford them and secondly, they are already very crowded. More construction and accommodation will not only make these cities more messy but also it will have severe consequences on the environment and health of the people already living there. For example, more people means more traffic which leads to noise and pollution. Moreover,
People generally migrate from one place to a big city for better lifestyle, however, not everyone can afford this. Instead of building the apartments in large cities, more attention should be first played on the suburban and then the rural areas. It is being said that health of residents of a country and education are the weapons of any nation. Getting the basic facilities of living is the right of every human and the relevant authorities or those in power should make sure to provide these. Very rare facilities has been seen in the hospitals in suburban areas so new hospitals will not only help the community there but it will also provide job opportunities to unemployed people. Literacy rate and economy of any country is very important for international recognition. More school, supermarkets, and better transport facilities will play a leading role in growth, prosperity, and employment opportunities.
In conclusion, instead of making the people move to tall apartments in already crowded cities, usage of vacant land in suburban areas for hospitals, schools, and supermarkets will have very positive and lasting effects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed the prompt by taking a clear position against the use of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat uneven. While you mention environmental and health concerns, the argument shifts significantly toward suburban development and infrastructure in the second half. This makes the essay feel like a general discussion on urban planning rather than a focused response to the specific claim about tall buildings. To reach a higher band, ensure that every paragraph directly supports your stance on the proposed solution (tall buildings) rather than moving to a different topic entirely.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is occasionally disrupted. For instance, the second paragraph ends abruptly with 'Moreover,' followed by a new paragraph that does not clearly link back to the previous point. While you use some cohesive devices like 'however' and 'in conclusion,' the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'first thing is not everyone can afford them,' where the antecedent for 'them' is ambiguous. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring clear topic sentences would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urbanization,' 'prosperity,' and 'infrastructure.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'make these cities more messy' and 'very rare facilities has been seen.' These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and avoiding informal descriptors like 'messy' in favor of more formal alternatives like 'congested' or 'overcrowded.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Very rare facilities has been seen') and article usage. Some sentences are also slightly fragmented or run-on, which affects the clarity of your points. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation will help you achieve more error-free sentences.
