Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, the most common way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks has become a matter of considerable debate. I strongly agree with this view because in my opinion houses in big cities is a good way for living. In big cities we have chance to live and spent our life with more convenient way rather than apartment in buildings.

One of the primary reasons for my position is that children can grow easily or without any stress in houses instead of block type apartments. In big cities highest ranked universities, schools and colleges are located near to the homes. Parks are moreover placed near the homes where children can play in their free time or people can go for exercises and morning walk daily which they helps to stay physically and mentally active. For example, if children play in their free times it can help them to stay active and it also boosts their immune system.

Another key point to consider is that hospitals and shopping malls are also located beside to the homes in big cities. For example, if hospitals and and shopping malls adjacent to the houses people can buy their daily life useful things easily and it can also help them to save their money or time. In any case of accident they save patients lives because they keep their period which is very helpful to protect any human life.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that houses in big cities is a easiest and convenient way to enjoy a life and as well as students future. I recommend people live big cities instead of apartments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but struggles with the core argument. The prompt asks about the suitability of 'tall apartment blocks' for housing in large cities. You argue in favor of 'houses' (detached/semi-detached homes) instead of apartments, which is a valid counter-argument, but you do not fully engage with the specific challenges of urban density or the necessity of high-rise living. The ideas are somewhat repetitive, focusing on the proximity of amenities rather than the logistical necessity of high-density housing. To improve, ensure you directly address the 'tall apartment blocks' aspect by discussing space constraints or urban planning challenges.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Parks are moreover placed' and 'In any case of accident they save patients lives' are awkward transitions. The logical progression between sentences is sometimes weak, as the connection between living in a house and the proximity of hospitals is not fully explained. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'big cities', 'good way', and 'things'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'spent our life with more convenient way' and 'block type apartments'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary related to urban development, such as 'urban sprawl', 'high-density housing', 'infrastructure', or 'residential facilities'. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help you express your ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('houses... is a good way'), article usage ('in big cities we have chance'), and sentence structure ('if hospitals and and shopping malls adjacent to the houses people can buy...'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the ones attempted often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles, before moving on to more complex grammatical forms.
