Student answer (Band 5.0)

Home is the necessity of every individual living in the world. To cover all the population of big cities in small area is to build multi floor buildings with different blocks representing specified property. However, it is argued that the cities have larger area to make small houses or smaller areas to make larger construction sites to accommodate the population.

Firstly, the small towns have less surroundings to cover large number of persons so they prefer to build larger infrastructure rather than building homes for individual family. For instance, in past many families adjust to live in one home. However, in current era everyone needs a separate house to live their personal life, they do not likes interruption from others. Many persons came from different countries and cities for the job so they need separate residence. To cover all this in small area, the best way is to build large amount of tall buildings to provide enough homes.

In addition to this, the cities with larger surroundings should avoid to build taller buildings but they should prefer to cover majority of the area. they should force the constructor to build single or double family house so that they covers lands for every living home and there is no need for the stairs and lifts, everyone in the society lives nearby each other and there is no competition for the higher floor.

To conclude, I agrees with the tall apartment homes as they cover larger number of people in the small area of the soil.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a position, but the development is inconsistent. While you argue for tall buildings in the second paragraph, the third paragraph introduces a contradictory argument suggesting cities should avoid them, which weakens your overall stance. The ideas are somewhat repetitive, and the conclusion is brief. To improve, ensure your position is clear and consistent throughout the essay. Focus on extending your main arguments with more specific examples or logical consequences rather than shifting focus mid-essay. The response meets the minimum length requirement, but the depth of analysis needs to be more focused to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by the conflicting arguments between the second and third paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'In addition to this', and 'To conclude', but they are sometimes used mechanically. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'they covers lands', where the pronoun 'they' does not clearly refer back to a specific noun. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph supports your central thesis will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'big cities', 'small area', and 'large amount'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'cover all the population' and 'area of the soil'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning, such as 'high-density housing', 'urban sprawl', or 'vertical development'. Additionally, focus on using words in their correct context to avoid minor inaccuracies that occasionally make the text sound unnatural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('everyone... do not likes', 'they covers'), article misuse ('in past'), and awkward phrasing ('the cities have larger area to make small houses'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Practising complex sentences with correct punctuation will also help improve your control over grammar.
