Student answer (Band 6.0)

The increasing demand of homes and land has significantly gained more popularity throughout the recent years. I firmly believe that constructing long blocks of apartments is not the only key solution to the issue.

One significant point of view for consideration is that adapting modern and effective architectural design can play an essential role in having more spacious homes. For example, planning the structure and layout of your home can enable the access to more space. Moreover, extension of halls towards the entrance can give sustainable room for other useful enhancement. Further, building tall apartment blocks consists of enormous figures of investment and funds. The cost of the amenities are significantly higher which will lead to more expenditure.

Another perspective of the view point is that constructing huge apartment blocks may lead to city congestion and eventually people may face the issue of suffocation. For example, metropolitan cities such as Mumbai and Delhi consist of enormous buildings and numerous expensive apartments leading to blockage of air to pass and creating an environment for suffocation to sustain. Further, there are various positive aspects for building tall apartment block such as utilization of a particular landscape to its maximum capacity. For instance, building can give shelter to multiple people with just the space of two local people's house in combined.

In conclusion, i believe that constructing tall housing systems may lead to suffocation and congestion of buildings as well as significant amount of money will be needed. Conversely, planning a better structure for your home may lead to extra space and can be quite essential for a middle class man.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that tall apartment blocks are the only solution. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph discusses architectural design and cost, which are relevant, but the connection to the prompt is slightly tenuous. The second paragraph introduces the issue of congestion and air circulation, which is a strong point, but then pivots to acknowledge the benefits of tall buildings, which creates a slight conflict in the argument. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, maintaining the established stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Further', and 'Conversely' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from architectural alternatives to the negative impacts of high-rise living. However, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the issue of suffocation', which is a slightly unnatural collocation in this context. Overall, the structure is coherent, and the reader can follow the writer's argument without significant difficulty, though more sophisticated linking would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are instances of imprecise word choice and unnatural collocations. For example, 'enormous figures of investment' and 'suffocation to sustain' are not standard English expressions. While the student attempts to use more academic vocabulary, the lack of precision occasionally hinders the clarity of the argument. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'building' and 'apartment'. To improve, the student should focus on learning collocations and more precise academic terminology to express complex ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The increasing demand of homes' (should be 'for homes') and 'the cost of the amenities are' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor issues with capitalization, such as 'i believe'. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage to improve accuracy and demonstrate better control over complex structures.
