Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's world the best way to build tall apartment blocks is to provide enough homes in large cities. It has become an important issue. While some people disagree, I firmly agree that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks because it benefits both individuals and society.

To begin with, one key reason is that people buy a home; they need to secure an apartment in a building. This is because many brokers are fraudulent. Which leads to accepting the problems and continuing to secure the apartment. Not only does this approach have a very fascinating benefit to security and consumption, but it also noticeably guards the apartment blocks, making it a practical solution.

Another reason is security dealing with the stamped papers of apartment blocks. Although some people believe that it hence is the wrong and valueless way to secure the apartment, I find this argument less convincing because the competition is very high. If governments, organisations and individuals work together, it helps the middle class to secure apartments and can be achieved more effectively. Only through such efforts can lasting progress be made.

In conclusion, I firmly agree that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks because it is not only for people but also helpful for middle-class people and impactful in the lives of lower-class families and people. Although some challenges may arise, they can be addressed through proper planning and cooperation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt but fails to provide a logical or relevant argument. The student discusses 'brokers' and 'stamped papers' rather than the urban planning, environmental, or social implications of building tall apartment blocks. The ideas are largely incoherent and do not directly answer why tall buildings are the 'best way' to provide housing. Consequently, the position is unclear, and the development of ideas is severely lacking. The response reads more like a series of disconnected sentences about property transactions rather than a cohesive argument regarding urban density or housing solutions. To improve, focus on brainstorming relevant arguments such as land efficiency, infrastructure, and population density.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

While the essay is divided into paragraphs, the internal logic is weak. The transition between ideas is often confusing, such as the jump from 'brokers are fraudulent' to 'guards the apartment blocks'. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often applied mechanically or inappropriately, such as 'Which leads to accepting the problems' which is a sentence fragment. The progression of ideas is not logical, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that subsequent sentences directly support that point using logical connectors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often used in ways that do not make sense in context. Phrases like 'security dealing with the stamped papers' and 'fascinating benefit to security and consumption' are unnatural and imprecise. The student attempts to use more formal language, but the lack of understanding of collocations leads to confusion. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic essay. To improve, focus on learning word collocations and using vocabulary that is relevant to the topic of urban development, such as 'high-density housing', 'urban sprawl', or 'infrastructure'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but accuracy is poor. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as sentence fragments ('Which leads to accepting the problems...') and incorrect verb usage ('it hence is the wrong'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak, which frequently impedes the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practicing the correct use of relative clauses and conjunctions to link ideas more effectively.
