Student answer (Band 6.0)
The demand of housing is increasing with increase in the population. To solve this arising problem many cities are preferring to construct high-rise building. I agree that building tall apartments can accommodate more and more people without destroying the landscape and utilizing the space efficiently.
Firstly, high-rise buildings solve the problem to accommodate the increasing number of people without damaging the countryside. The city outskirts are of great importance for conservation of native species and enhances the beauty of a city. If the construction is expanded horizontally it has to be at the expense of destroying the landscape of a region. One of the most detrimental aspects of urbanization which was reported in Times magazine was that it utilized 60% of the surrounding areas of the city resulting loss of habitat and disturbed ecosystem.
Metropolitan cities not only need to provide housing to locals, but they have welcome expats which come to work and call it a second home. States need to act smartly and need a plan which can accommodate the increasing influx of human beings. By designing tall buildings, they can fulfil the demand very efficiently. For example, Dubai built skyscrapers not just as statement pieces but to combat the accommodation needs of thousands of expats living there. Today Dubai construction has boomed after the successful construction of high-rises.
In conclusion, the housing demand created by the growing population of large cities can be addressed effectively by the construction of building which are vertically high than horizontally expanded.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding land conservation and the efficiency of vertical housing are relevant and well-supported. However, the development is slightly uneven; while the point about environmental preservation is well-argued, the second body paragraph could have been expanded further to explore potential drawbacks or nuances, such as infrastructure or social density, to achieve a more balanced and comprehensive discussion. Overall, the ideas are relevant, but they could be extended with more depth to reach the higher band descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the phrasing 'the construction of building which are vertically high than horizontally expanded', which is slightly awkward and impacts the smoothness of the final summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'high-rise', 'urbanization', 'ecosystem', and 'influx'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'The demand of housing' (should be 'demand for'), 'accommodate more and more people' (a bit informal), and 'vertically high than horizontally expanded' (should be 'vertically rather than horizontally'). To improve, focus on more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'with increase in the population' (missing article), 'has to be at the expense of destroying' (slightly wordy), and 'they can fulfil the demand' (spelling: 'fulfill' is preferred in some contexts, though 'fulfil' is acceptable). There are also minor punctuation and article errors throughout. The control of grammar is sufficient to communicate ideas, but more error-free complex sentences are needed for a higher score.
