Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is ongoing debate about to construct massive residential building in large cities to provide enough house for individuals is the best idea. I completely agree with this view because it provides efficient use of land and lower infrastructure costs.

The primary reason why i support this view is that tall apartment saves most of the land area and large cities have limited land so this approach is really helpful for government. A good illustration of this can be seen in cities like Singapore and Hong Kong use high rise apartments because land is scarce. As a result these countries have more land property than other countries it uses in farming.

Another equally important reason is that it lower infrastructure costs. In other words it beneficial for individuals and government as well as. For instance people have to spend less money to live in flats compared to land houses. also governments spend less money to supply electricity, water supply and roads because services are concentrated in one location. As a result it saves lots of money for citizens and authorities. Furthermore from this saved fund government easily focuses on projects like green spaces and support tree plantation in empty land.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that making tall buildings for living is great way because it saves lot o

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. While the arguments regarding land efficiency and infrastructure costs are relevant, they are not fully extended. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the argument. To reach a higher band, you must ensure the essay meets the length requirement and provides more detailed, nuanced explanations for each point, rather than relying on brief statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Another equally important reason', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In other words it beneficial for individuals and government as well as'. The incomplete ending negatively impacts the overall coherence of the piece. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, fully developed structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use basic terms like 'massive residential building' and 'save lots of money'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'more land property' and 'support tree plantation'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning and economics, and pay closer attention to collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'There is ongoing debate about to construct' (should be 'about constructing'), 'tall apartment saves' (subject-verb agreement), and 'it lower infrastructure costs' (should be 'it lowers'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with missing commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and consistent verb tense control.
