Student answer (Band 6.0)

The rapid growth of urban population has created a serious problem that is shortage of homes in the cities. Some people think that building tall apartment blocks can solve this problem. I strongly agree from this view because creating tall apartments can utilize less territory of land.

One of the major advantage of building apartments in the cities is that it required less space of land. As in urban areas, we dont have large area of surface to build big house for individuals. Because there are already so many buildings, factories and industries are developed that there is no more area left for making homes due which number of people are homeless. Most of the people used to stay in rented house and they spend their whole life staying there as a tenants.

Another advantage is that high density housing can provide more government opportunities. If higher number of people live in compact area, government can provide public transport, hospitals, schools, community center, bus stops and shopping facilities more effeciently.

Moreover, if people used to stay together this can enhance different cultures and traditions in a society because in urban cities numerous people migrate from different areas for jobs opportunity and better education. Living together also shares their culture experience, traditions and even food diversity.

In conclusion, I agree that building tall apartments is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities because it uses land efficiently and support sustainable enviornment. I prefer, government should take powerful actions and make sure that this strategy should be accompanied by careful planning.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. The ideas are relevant, focusing on land efficiency and the benefits of high-density living for public services. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about 'government opportunities' is a bit vague and could have been better explained as 'infrastructure efficiency' or 'economies of scale'. While the main arguments are clear, they lack specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, but the overall position remains consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the major advantage', 'Another advantage', and 'Moreover', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For instance, the phrase 'due which number of people are homeless' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the logical connection between the lack of land and the housing crisis. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within sentences could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'high density housing', 'sustainable environment', and 'urban population'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'utilize less territory of land' (instead of 'land area') and 'government opportunities' (which is not a standard collocation). Spelling errors like 'effeciently' and 'enviornment' also occur. The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('factories and industries are developed that there is no more area left') and article usage. The sentence 'I strongly agree from this view' is an incorrect prepositional phrase. There are also issues with pluralization and tense consistency, such as 'Most of the people used to stay in rented house'. While these errors do not prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to limit the score to a 6.0.
