Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 161 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a position, the arguments are repetitive and lack the necessary depth, examples, or logical extension required for an academic essay. The conclusion merely repeats points made in the body paragraphs rather than synthesizing the argument. To improve, you must expand on your reasoning with specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', but the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or abrupt. The lack of complex linking words makes the argument feel disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple terms like 'big cities' and 'facilities'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'face problem to build homes' instead of 'face challenges in constructing housing' and 'accommodates living people' which is unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'population increasing rapidly' (missing auxiliary verb), 'living in biggest cities have faces' (subject-verb agreement and article errors), and 'construct the homes' (incorrect verb form). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and incorporating a wider range of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences.
