Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, many individuals think that build tall apartment blocks is the best path to provide enough homes in large cities. I completely agree with this statement because of the large population and land shortage.
One of the main reason i agree with this point of view is population. Individuals in all around of the world increasing day by day . Most of the people are moving from a rural to a urban area for several reason for instance, jobs, education, business and other. When a vast amount of people are start to living in a city definitely there will need some more house but city are has already many house there are less place to invent new home for resident . therefore building should construct tall
apartment blocks .
In addition, another compelling reason is that city has less unoccupied place for create new house. The land shortages is the biggest problem to invent more homes so it can replaced by build tall apartment blocks. In large cities there has many shopping malls and industries these also occupied many space . Tall apartment blocks will be the best way for city because there has no enough space for invent individual home . Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention population growth and land shortages, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, you mention 'land shortages' and 'no space' multiple times without providing specific examples or exploring the potential downsides of high-rise living, which would have provided a more balanced and thorough discussion. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more specific evidence or logical consequences, ensuring that each paragraph contributes a distinct, well-supported idea.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'for instance, jobs, education, business and other' and 'therefore building should construct' feel disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'these also occupied many space', where the antecedent is not immediately obvious. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that your sentences flow logically from one to the next rather than feeling like a list of separate points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'house', 'home', and 'place' where more precise academic vocabulary would be appropriate. There are also several word-choice errors, such as 'invent new home' (instead of 'create' or 'construct') and 'there has no enough space' (instead of 'there is not enough space'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to urban planning and housing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Individuals... increasing', 'city has less unoccupied place'), incorrect verb forms ('are start to living', 'can replaced by build'), and missing articles. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. The sentence structure is generally simple, and the lack of control over basic grammar significantly affects the readability of the text. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles will help improve your accuracy.
