Student answer (Band 5.0)

Now we will discuss on the best way for the big cities to provide enough homes or to build a building of apartment blocks.

First we will talk about to provide enough homes. I personally live with my family in a house of five person. There is 3 bed rooms and 1 kitchen. According to my opinion we should live in a house because here we can get our personal space we can do what ever we want to and it is safe also we have our on personal rooms. The homes are built in a society and the tall apartments are built for the people who want to live there life lonely and some people choose to live in a apartment because they cannot afford the huge prices of the house. The people who moves from villages to a big cities for the studies they not have enough money to buy a home so the usually live in a apartment. Apartment rents are affordably to pay by students.

Homes are for those who want to live with there family and apartments blocks are for those who can live there roomates and can share the rents of the apartment equally.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. The essay does not fully address the prompt; it focuses primarily on personal preference for houses versus apartments rather than discussing the broader urban planning issue of whether tall apartment blocks are the 'best way' to provide enough homes in large cities. The position is not clearly articulated, and the arguments lack the depth and academic support required for this task. To improve, you must expand your arguments, provide relevant examples, and ensure you address the specific prompt directly rather than focusing on personal anecdotes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. While there are paragraph breaks, the progression of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and paragraphs, making the text feel like a series of isolated statements rather than a coherent argument. For example, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, you should use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast' to connect your ideas logically. Additionally, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates directly to the main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'big cities', 'enough homes', and 'live in a house' are used frequently without variation. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'live there life lonely' (live their lives alone) and 'rents are affordably to pay' (rents are affordable). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas or academic arguments. You should aim to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to urban development, such as 'high-density housing', 'urban sprawl', or 'infrastructure'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('people who moves'), incorrect pronoun usage ('there life' instead of 'their lives'), and sentence structure. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence forms, which are necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization, before attempting more complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences.
