Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding 'budget-friendly' options is mentioned but not explained with specific reasoning or examples. The position is clear, but the supporting points are often listed rather than fully extended. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples or deeper analysis for each point, such as explaining how specific urban planning policies or architectural innovations mitigate the risks you mentioned.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'On the contrary'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Agglomerating the aforementioned points'. Additionally, some sentences lack logical flow, particularly in the second paragraph where ideas are presented as a list of fragments rather than well-connected arguments. Improving the transition between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'big cities' and 'tall building'. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'give sufficient residence' instead of 'provide sufficient housing' and 'traffic jam-packed'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on natural collocations will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'new technology will utilized' (passive voice error), 'it doesn't does not' (redundancy), and 'no open space is will available' (modal verb error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb forms is essential.
