Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the benefits and drawbacks of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you mention land efficiency and safety, the argument regarding earthquakes is a bit tangential and lacks a clear link to the overall housing strategy. The position is clear, but the conclusion is slightly repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed point that directly supports your stance on whether this is the 'best' way to provide housing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', 'In conclusion'). There are instances where the logical flow between sentences is disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the benefits of apartments and the risks of earthquakes. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the subject matter. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'better way', 'good', and 'big', which limits the sophistication of your argument. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'without examine the area' (should be 'without examining') and 'cause distruction' (spelling error). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning, such as 'high-density housing', 'infrastructure', or 'sustainable development', and pay closer attention to word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'governments shouldn make'), article usage (e.g., 'in single land'), and tense consistency. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb forms will help improve your accuracy.
