Student answer (Band 5.0)
SCARCITY OF LAND RAISED THE CONCERNS IN FRONT OF GOVERNMENTS TO PROVIDE SHELTERS TO THEIR CITIZENS. MANY NATIONS ARE REPLACING LOW-RISE HOUSE WITH TALL BUILDING BLOCKS FOR FULFILLING THESE DEMANDS. I LARGELY AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT BECAUSE IS HAS VARIOUS ADVANTAGES SUCH AS CONSERVATION OF NATURE AND LOW-COST OF INFRASTRUCTURE. THESE ESSAY WILL DISCUSS THESE VIEWS WITH SUITABLE EXAMPLES FOLLOWED BY MY OPINION.
ON THE ONE HAND, BUILDING HIGH-RISE BLOCKS HAVE VARIOUS ADVANTAGES. FIRST AND FORMOST IS IT PROVIDES MAXIMUM USAGE OF LAND, BECAUSE IT TAKES A SMALL FOOTPRINT OF LAND TO CREATE MULTIPLE ACCOMMODATIONS WITH THE HELP OF VERTICAL INFRASTRUCRURE. FOR INSTANCE, MANY COSMOPOLITAN CITIES SUCH AS MUMBAI, AHMEDABAD ARE DEVELOPING HIGH-RISE BUILDING TO PROVIDE SHELTERS WITH OPTIMUM USAGE OF LAND.
MOREOVER, IT REDUCES ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTIONS, BECAUSE IT COULD TAKE A LOT OF LAND TO BUILD LOW-RISE HOMES FOR EACH CITIZENS WHICH CAN RESULT INTO DESTRUCTION OF FOREST LAND FOR BUILDING HOUSES. THESE CAN BE PREVENTED BY THE USE OF MULTI STOREY BUILDINGS.
ON THE OTHER HAND, REDUCED QUALITY OF LIFE,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the middle of a sentence. Because the response is unfinished, the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full introduction, two or three well-developed body paragraphs with supporting examples, and a conclusion. The current length prevents you from fully exploring the arguments, resulting in an underdeveloped response that fails to meet the basic requirements of an IELTS Task 2 essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses some basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Moreover', which help to signal the structure. However, because the essay is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, the overall progression is interrupted. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is non-existent. To achieve a higher score, you need to ensure that your ideas are fully developed within each paragraph and that the essay reaches a logical conclusion. The lack of a complete structure makes it difficult to assess your ability to manage cohesion effectively throughout a full-length piece of writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cosmopolitan', 'infrastructure', and 'conservation'. However, there are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'low-rise house' (should be plural 'houses') and 'environmental destructions' (should be 'destruction'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated academic phrases would help, but the primary focus should be on ensuring accuracy in the words you already use.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'scarcity of land raised the concerns' (should be 'raises'), 'is has various advantages' (should be 'it has'), and 'result into' (should be 'result in'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over complex structures. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, and proofread your work to catch basic slips.
