Student answer (Band 5.5)

To provide shelter to the people who are struggling in finding homes some people considers that to build the tall apartment blocks in big cities as the best idea. I disagree as increasing the height makes the building fragile, create nose pollution in near by surrounding, increase time to reach highest floor.

Moreover, if you make tall residence it will make building weak not only from the outside but from the inside, due to more number of people it will increased load on a building foundations. Also, if any natural disaster like thunder storm occurs it easily hits the tallest building. In addition, adding more people creates more noise pollution enhance difficulty to achieve quality of life. Neighbors get disturb in night times, old people may face insomnia and leading other health issue secondary to sleep deprivation.

Furthermore, more height to dwelling increases building elevation as well leads to issue with people in reaching to top floor. If elevators are not incorporated in building design then its will create trouble for people to climb stairs as it consume time and difficult for older people especially with breathing or knee related health problems. Also, due to all these issues families may not opt for top floor residency in such huge buildings as the family head has to consider all these factors in account to select home that is desirable to each family members. As family might be consist of children, and old age people who may face difficulty with climbing.

In last, I believe that tall flats in a building can't help people in positive terms to reside peacefully, also it could be harmful for every individual health and preferences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies on questionable premises, such as the claim that tall buildings are inherently 'fragile' or that they cause 'noise pollution' simply due to their height. While the position is consistent, the arguments lack depth and rely on generalizations rather than logical urban planning perspectives. To improve, you should focus on more realistic arguments, such as the strain on public infrastructure, the loss of community feel, or the high cost of maintenance, rather than suggesting that tall buildings are structurally unstable or inherently noisy.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. For instance, the transition from discussing structural integrity to 'noise pollution' in the second paragraph feels abrupt. Improving the use of referencing and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed theme would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You use some basic terms repeatedly, such as 'building', 'people', and 'difficulty'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'nose pollution' (likely a typo for noise) and 'residence' used as a countable noun ('a tall residence'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to urban development, such as 'high-density housing', 'infrastructure strain', or 'architectural integrity'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('some people considers', 'it will increased load'), incorrect article usage ('in near by surrounding'), and awkward phrasing ('as the family head has to consider all these factors in account'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your accuracy.
