Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding 'modernism' and 'shopping centers' are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The essay also ends abruptly with an incomplete sentence ('As for as my concern'), which significantly impacts the task completion. While the position is clear, the supporting points are not fully extended or explored, and the failure to provide a conclusion prevents a balanced discussion of the topic. To improve, ensure that each paragraph develops a distinct, logical point and always include a concluding summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often mechanical. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all' and 'Turning on another argument', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that feels forced. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a final paragraph leaves the essay feeling unfinished. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is functional, but the overall flow is hindered by the abrupt ending and some awkward phrasing between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'good aspects', 'modernism', and 'beautiful'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'build up tall buildings' or 'economy get better position'. There are also minor errors in collocation and word formation. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning and economics, and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people is prefer', 'economy get better') and article misuse ('in previous era'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the incomplete final sentence demonstrates a lack of control over sentence structure. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors is high enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
